McNabb Leads Eagles to 10 Quick Points in Preseason Debut

Seems like QB Donovan McNabb is feeling no ill effects of his knee issues that forced him to miss last weeks preseason opener. As a matter a fact, McNabb looked in mid-season form in his first game since tearing a knee ligament last November. At home Friday night vs the Carolina Panthers, McNabb was sharp and quick in decisions, going 6-for-9 in 138 yards as the Eagles built a big lead with their star QB in there.

On their first drive, McNabb drove his team from the their own 24 down to the Carolina 34 before kicker David Akers booted a 52-yard field goal to put the Eagles up 3-0. McNabb on his first play hit Kevin Curtis for 27 yards, and later in the drive hit on a 16 yard pass and then later went six yards to Brian Westbrook. The six play possession lasted 2:53.

The next drive was even more impressive for McNabb, as he on a 3rd-and-2 from his own 21 hit an 18-yard pass for a first down. Then came the play of the the game for McNabb, as he went deep right for Matt Schobel, who hauled it in for a 58 yard grab that took Philly from their own 39 down to the Panthers 3. The very next play Tony Hunt took the ball over for the score and a 10-0 lead.

McNabb played two more series’ but was unable to produce any more points. That was of no concern to Eagles fans. He did his job, put up a quick 10 points, and showed that he can still be a force under center in the National Football League. He put the rest of the teams in the NFC quickly on notice. Look out, number 5 is back in business.
