Kolb Not Pleased About Outing vs Panthers

Kolb

While all the focus was on the play of starting QB Donovan McNabb and the great night he had against the Panthers, another QB was a bit hard on himself and his play for the Eagles. “It didn’t go real well,” first round pick Kevin Kolb said after the Eagles’ 27-10 preseason victory over the Carolina Panthers. “I can’t let some of the things that are happening out there create bad habits for myself as a quarterback.”

Kolb was 11-for-16 for 78 yards, and did have few first down runs in the big win. He helped lead the Eagles on a drive that ended with a field goal by David Akers that put the Eagles up 27-3. “I didn’t feel like I made very good choices a couple times and, to be honest, sometimes the pressure was affecting not just that throw but other throws when I had protection. Maybe the time before you had to throw off your back foot,” Kolb said. “But the next time you have time, and you’re still doing it, and you’re not leading the receiver the way you want to. You just can’t let that happen as a quarterback.”

Kolb is maybe being a bit too hard on himself, as to date he has made numerous nice plays in practice, and has been earning the respect of not only his teammates but also of fellow QB McNabb. He made a nice play on 3rd-and-15 from the Panthers 41 that eventually led to an 8-yard gain that allowed Akers a 51-yard field goal, also led a drive into Panthers territory in the 4th quarter that ended with the team not gaining a yard on 4th-and-1. It was still a growing process for Kolb and his team.

“I just didn’t feel good. I felt like I was in better rhythm last week, and you definitely want to keep progressing every week. I think I battled through it OK. . . . But from my point of view, I didn’t feel like I played very well.”
