Eagles Eliminated From Playoffs
Posted by Matt Loede on December 18th, 2007 filed in NewsThe Eagles have been officially eliminated from playoff contention. Philly was knocked out after the Vikings beat the Bears on Monday Night Football. At a disappointing 6-and-8, the Eagles held the slimmest chance of even making the playoffs. Chicago, Detroit, and Arizona were also eliminated. The Eagles play the Saints Sunday afternoon in New Orleans.

How are the eagles eliminated? If they win there next two games and the vikings lose both of their’s then they will both be 8-8 and the eagles win the tiebreaker, so wouldn’t they make the playoffs?

The Vikings improved to 8-6. And although the Eagles have a head-to-head win over the Vikings and can also reach eight wins, the problem is that the Redskins — who improved to 7-7 with a win over the Giants Sunday night — face the Vikings next weekend, and somebody has to win that game.

But why can’t the Eagles win a tie-breaker with the Redskins if all 3 teams go 8-8. We’re 1-1 against the ’skins and we’d both have a 2-4 divisional record…
is it conference games or common games as the next tiebreaker? And what changes with a 3-way tie? Phillyblurbs says no matter what we can’t win any tiebreaker where Washington is involved, why?
