Looks like DE Victor Abiamiri will be one player called upon that could be starting when the 2008 season kicks off. Defensive coordinator Jim Johnson stated on Tuesday to PhiladelphiaEagles.com that Abiamiri has the skills to be a starter, and the 07 second-round pick may be good in Johnson’s defensive scheme. Right now you have Juqua Thomas and Darren Howard in the DE spots, and if Abiamiri can show the coaches something during off season training and camps, it’s likely he will be in the starting lineup come 08.

I think we’ll know by draft day exactly how high Coach Reid & Coach Johnson are on two of the young players on D, specifically Abiamiri and Stewart Bradley (did I seriously hear teammates comparing him to Brian Urlacher?), based on how things go in the first couple of rounds. If the eagles go S/CB/WR/TE/OL with their first couple of picks, you know those guys are going to get their shot. If we get our annual dose of DE in the first round, well…sorry Victor.
