A Report from The News Journal has Larry Fitzgerald going to the Philadelphia Eagles in a trade scenario which takes on new intrigue daily, with an offer surfacing Friday that the Eagles have submitted a trade proposal to Arizona to acquire the Pro Bowl wide receiver.

The Cardinals and Fitzgerald contract renegotiations have been in a standstill, according to The Arizona Republic, which also reported that the Eagles have offered All-Pro cornerback Lito Sheppard and wide receiver Reggie Brown as trade bait with hopes of luring the Cardinals into dealing away the former Pittsburgh Panther if they can’t reach an agreement to rework his contract.

A league source confirmed to The News Journal that the Eagles have made a deal that looks attractive to Arizona on paper, but the source couldn’t further elaborate on the details of the trade offer.

The Cardinals still hold out hope of reaching a new deal with Fitzgerald or having him play out the rest of his contract, according to The Arizona Republic report.

Fitzgerald, 24, is scheduled to make $14.6 million in 2008 and $17.4 million in 2009, the final year of his contract. Cardinals general manager Rod Graves has unquestionably stated that Fitzgerald will stay a Cardinal.

If Philly makes this deal happen they will come out as big-time winners obtaining an elite top-flight WR, giving Donovan McNabb his best target since Terrell Owens. McNabb has been surrounded by inconsistent (Kevin Curtis) underachieving (Reggie Brown) wideouts that have not been able to produce under pressure and perform to expectations when he and the Eagles need them the most. Fitzgerald is considered an upper echelon pass catcher and has the size and strength to cure Philly’s red zone problems, woes that were so dismal they went 23 of 54 in converting opportunities into touchdowns inside the 20. After falling short in a legitimate attempt to sign Randy Moss, in which they offered him more cash than NE did, it looks like the Eagles are taking a bold, go for it all approach in trying to land a #1 receiving threat. I believe it’s worth it, as the proposal of Fitzgerald for Sheppard and Brown would make sense for both teams and this trade would bolster Philly’s chances of making a run at Dallas and New York for the NFC East Division Title. McNabb needs a #1 WR and you can count on Larry Fitzgerald being that go-to-guy if Philly can pull this trade off.
