Week #2 – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

By Jay Arnold and Matt Harvey

This week Harv has the O and I’ve got the D.

It was one of the most exciting games I’ve ever watched. Huge plays right and left. I didn’t take the loss as hard as I thought I would because this game affirmed my suspicions that the Birds can hang with the best in league. It could be much worse… we could be Dolphins Fans.

DEFENSE

THE GOOD

If you see Quintin Mikell fighting a bear… you better help that bear. What an animal he was last night. Talk about a nose for the football…the guy is legit and it seemed like he was in on every play.

The Corners were exceptional on their man coverage. It was the safety/LB combo that gave up the vast majority of big plays. Asante’s first eagles int was pretty sweet to see. He shut down his guy all night long.

The D-line, was actually pretty darn solid. I don’t know how I feel about Johnson only rushing four guys numerous times on third and long, but overall, they had consistent pressure, stopped Barber early on, and clearly got into the head of Tony “Footsteps” Romo.

Think about this… Our undersized line didn’t get blown off the ball by an outstanding offensive line. Very Very promising.

THE BAD

What were Dawkins and Considine doing the whole game. I realize Whitten is good, but he had a=2
0full step or two on them numerous times. Lookin’ slow guys.

The linebackers didn’t have their best game. This was the first time they were exposed to quite a few screen plays and they just weren’t reacting the way they needed to.

THE UGLY

Sean Considine getting burnt like a Blind-Man’s Pot-Roast. Not gonna’ lie…I vomited in my mouth a little when I saw that play.

OFFENSE

In a word “WoW”! I can’t remember a time in all the years of watching Eagles football where I felt that everytime we had the ball we were putting 6 on the board. The offense put 30 points on what was supposed to be a Top 5 defense in the league.

Let’s look at some of the stats for the game. D’MAC awesome for the most part. 67.5% completion percentage. However it was only for 7 yds per pass. In comparison to Romo who had a 70% completion percentage and 10.4 yds per pass. Even with these numbers I would say that it was D’MAC who played better then Romo. He showed power and explosiveness in his runs and throws. Westbrook had his standard 100+ all purpose yds and 3 touchdowns. 9 (yes I said 9) different receivers caught passes and all contributed.

Let’s remember we are doing this without our 2 starting receivers. I can’t wait untill they get back and see what we can do. Great game overall for the O but let’s get to the Good, Bad and Ugly!!

THE GOOD— Points, lot’s of them. 30 points put up by the O should be enough to win
every game this year. So we need to make sure we continue.

THE BAD
— Fumbles, 3 total only lost 1 but that trend can’t cont. two of them were on exchanges from D’MAC to B’West. We all know to win you must protect the football.

THE UGLY— This one is pretty obvious. Jackson (hasn’t yet earned a nickname) putting the cart before the horse, and fumbling the football prior to entering the endzone. I love this kid but as a kid my coaches would have me running home from Dallas for that one. However, I am pretty sure that Fantasy Owners of B’West were thrilled with the extra TD.

Tough loss but we showed that at least on the offensive side of the ball we can play with anyone. Next up Pittsburgh, another 3-4 blitzing scheme. Pray that Shawn Andrews is back!(So to speak) Go Eagles!!!!!
