Eagles Would Be Smart to Make a Push for Harrison
The all-time leading wide out for the Colts is going to be on the market within the next 24 hours, and the Eagles should do whatever it takes to make sure he’s wearing green next season. Yes, Marvin Harrison is 36, and he’s coming off a season in which he only caught 60 passes for 636 yards and five scores, but he would come to a system that right away makes him a great fit for Philadelphia.
He would be a great mentor for DeSean Jackson, and would upgrade the Eagles wide out position, that’s included looking at players already in free agency and possible draft picks that you never know could or could not pan out. Another thing going for the Eagles is that they have the money to spend on a WR like Harrison, who reportedly didn’t want to take a pay cut which is why he won’t be a Colt anymore.
Harrison has seen better days, but he’s an upgrade for the Eagles, and if there was a choice between he and say free agent WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, I would think that Harrison, who lives in Philly, would appreciate coming home more, and would not demand the type of money that Houshmandzadeh would. It’s going to be up to the Eagles to make the move to try and get Harrison’s attention when the release is made, and if they are smart, they won’t waste anytime in doing it.

It’s not like Marvin Harrison was thrown the ball a bunch of times lately. For the most part, he was ignored on purpose by Payton. If he joins the Eagles and Donavan McNabb, they’ll break records put up between Donavan and T.O. and will definitely have a better chemistry than Harrison and Manning. His talents still demands double protection because his skill are not deminished. Training and pre-season would show whether his age would stop him from starting. 20 years ago 36 was more of a concern than it is today. If other teams he play against sleep on him, he’ll burn them everytime.
That’s if the ball is thrown where its catchable. Manning purposely silenced all of Harrison’s individual record streaks but managed to keep his own intact. Harrison is the type of weapon you use in major wars. The problem was that Payton wanted to be too much of a genius and use so many other receivers instead of the proven weapon of distruction. You don’t take a 22 relover or use a daringer in a war. He had marginal success doing that but the law of average would alway catch up with the teams outcome. The opponent were not threatened like they could have been and now he’ll have to survive without a major gun he muffled. I’m praying that the Eagles add this powerful weapon to their force. The reunification between Harrison and McNabb could be just what the Eagles need to help win the Super Bowl.
