Long Time Safety Dawkins Signs w/ Denver

Following up on a story from earlier today, it looks like safety Brian Dawkins will not be wearing an Eagles uniform in 2009, and instead will be in Denver.

According to a report in the San Francisco Gate, the Broncos are planning a news conference on Saturday to introduce “Weapon X” after coming to terms with him on a deal.

Dawkins had been with Philly for the previous 13 seasons, the franchise that made him its second-round draft choice out of Clemson in 1996.

He’ll turn 36 in October of the upcoming season, but has gas in the tank and has been selected to the Pro Bowl seven times in his distinguished career. He has played all 16 games in three of the past four years, including a 75 tackle, three-sack campaign in 2008.

In 183 career games, Dawkins has picked off 34 passes while compiling 21 sacks and 936 tackles. It’s a huge hit for the Eagles to lose Dawkins, as they felt they would have the shot to bring Dawkins back even after he hit the free agent market at midnight.

The Broncos cleared up a ton of cap space last week, and had an active first day of free agency, signing two running backs, a long snapper, and now Dawkins.

    Fellow Birds,,
As you all know, I am not “OK” with the departure of Brian Dawkins. Yes the money part of this is a issue that we have been dealing with for a long time. We need to but shouldn’t, complain about Lurie and Banner’s philosophy’s regarding the treatment of players until it causes us to lose(notice I didn’t include Reid in that Philosphy). Well I lost ! The Eagles have been doing this long before Reid was here.

The Eagles are moving forward but left one of their men behind. The treatment that this Franchise has shown to their long time veterans is what it is. The point that I want to make is that in most cases, these players came here in FA. Duce Staley and Bobby Taylor were the only 2 Fan Favorites to leave before this weekend.(Trottier left because he wanted to be a FA When the Eagles put the “FRANCHISE” tag on him) In both cases a “drafted” Replacements were signed and groomed before their departure. Maybe that is what is happening, but I don’t see Demps being that guy, filling those Big shoe. We all knew that Shepperd/Brown could play corner. We don’t know anything about Demps other than he can play a little in the dime and he can also return kicks.

Dawkins is a special player that gave more than he received. He didn’t complain about money, how he was treated. He didn’t hold out for anything. He never missed a scheduled Meeting, Practice ( Yes Practice), Mini-camp(other than when his twins were born) or any other team event. He is a model citizen and excellent member of the Community. If the Eagles preach about the being a model person and the absolute devotion to a common goal, they need to do a better job with the members of this team that devote their lives to make themselves, everyone around them the best person possible .

Lets move onto the other Life long Eagles leaving the nest. Tre Thomas has been a work horse for the blind side of Donavan McNabb. In 11 years he played in 166 games. He has patiently talked with the birds about resigning only to visit other teams and now looks like he will be signing with the Jacksonville Jaqaurs unless this Front office does something about it. After signing Stacy Andrews (Farwell to Runyon) we are going to need Justice, Jean-Gilies, or a draft pick to play a few games before Andrews is ready. I like the sign but right now your line looks like this: Herramens LT, Cole LG, Jackson C, Shaun Andrews RG, ??Justice Jean-Gillies until Stacy Andrews is ready, at RT. Head on a swivel mean anything to you? Tre “MUST” be resigned !

Now since the my two favorite players in Eagles history have been Plucked and disregarded from the Flock, by the Ownership. I no longer Question, Andy Reid or Donovan McNabb in play calling or how he didn’t make that throw. The people you, as a fan, should complain or question, will never put on a Headset, watch film, or put on a uniform. They don’t spend the day in the elements watching their team play a game that we all love. We should complain about the people who are taking away the “Heroes” and the “Legacies” of our team. Banner and Lurie are what makes the off season suck in this town. They like to preach the “Gold Standard” & I know that since they took over this team they are among the top 8 franchises in Football(without a RING), but when is loyalty ever going to show its face again in this organization. Loyalty is Devotion. The common goal is to win the Superbowl. Yes, it is a business, but this sounds like something the Phillies would say. Lets promote a winning attitude and make sure we save money anywhere we can. $40 Million….. I hope we can sign our draft pick with $40 million… All 10 of them.

RIP #12 & #20. They will never be worn by this EAGLES FAN ever again. I feel that this team slighted me personally just like they slighted Dawk & Randle.

Thanks for Nothing Eagles….. as usual…

    Chris Logan
