Breaking Down the 2009 Eagles Salary Cap

ESPN’s Insider is talking about the salary cap, and they have broken down how the Eagles shape up heading into the 09 season:

2009 Salary Cap: $148,195,074
Player with Highest Cap Number: QB Donovan McNabb ($20,273,950; 15.8% of cap) Highest Cap Number for a Player No Longer with Club: CB Lito Sheppard ($725,000; 0.6% of cap, 39th on club)
Player Who Has to Live Up to Cap Number: LT Jason Peters ($12,704,680; 9.9% of cap, second on club)

Tackles Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan are out; Jason Peters and Stacy Andrews are in. Peters and Andrews ranked first and sixth — in a bad way — in sacks allowed last season (11.5 for Peters and 9.5 for Andrews), according to Stats LLC. Yet these two significant offseason acquisitions for the Eagles rank second and fourth on the Eagles’ 2009 salary cap (Andrews’ 2009 cap number is $6,908,750). Thomas and Runyan were a bit long in the tooth and needed eventual replacement and both Peters and Andrews were better in 2006 and 2007 than they were a year ago. But given the significant cap investment into the club’s two new tackles, there is significant pressure for these two players to live up to expectations.
