Today’s Philadelphia Inquirer talks about Brian Westbrook returning to the team in mid-August:
Brian Westbrook and Victor Abiamiri have identical mid-August target dates for their returns to the practice field, Eagles coach Andy Reid said yesterday as the team officially opened training camp at Lehigh University.
That was only good news for Westbrook. Abiamiri, a third-year defensive end with a chance to open the season as the starter on the left side, only recently found out that he’d open training camp in one of trainer Rick Burkholder’s rehabilitation programs. “Victor strained a [pectoral] muscle,” Reid said, later adding that the injury occurred while Abiamiri was lifting weights recently.
Westbrook, meanwhile, was scheduled to report along with the rookies last night and continue his rehab over the next three days. He underwent surgery a little more than seven weeks ago to remove two bone spurs from his right ankle.
“Brian is actually up here now,” Reid said. “He won’t do any work on the field. He’ll just do his rehab work. He won’t go to any meetings [with the rookies]. He’s strictly going to be getting back rehabbing with Rick. He spent the off-season here [in Philadelphia] doing the same thing.”
