Vick to Speak to HS Students About Dogfighting
Posted by Matt Loede on September 8th, 2009 in News
Eagles quarterback Michael Vick will speak to a group of high school students about dogfighting and animal rights.
Vick is appearing Tuesday at Nueva Esperanza Academy in the city’s Hunting Park neighborhood. He’ll be joined by Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States.
Vick was sent to prison for his role in operating a dogfighting ring. He was released from federal custody July 20 after serving 18 months of a 23-month sentence.
The Eagles signed him a month later. Some Eagles fans and animal welfare groups have criticized the team, saying Vick sets a bad example.
Vick has called his offenses “a horrible mistake” and has vowed to crusade for animal rights.
