Usually when the Philadelphia Eagles are playing, the game sypnosis usually includes quarterback Donovan McNabb. But during Sunday’s game against the host Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome, the player of note was none other than former Falcons QB Michael Vick. You may remember him from his legal troubles involving dogfighting, or if you’re a NFL and/or Falcons fan, remember him for being a 3-time All Star. Regardless, he factored in Philadelphia’s easy 34-7 win as he ran and threw for a touchdown.
The Eagles drew first blood when kicker David Akers connected on a 33-yard field goal with 9:33 left in the first quarter and a 4-yard McNabb-to-Leonard Weaver TD pass just over a minute later, giving Philadelphia a 10-0 lead; Akers would kick another 33-yard FG with 8:10 remaining in the first half, padding the Eagles’ cushion to 13-0, which would be the score at halftime.
Philadelphia piled it on during the third quarter as Vick scored from 5 yards out with 8:08 left in the period while cornerback Sheldon Brown intercepted and returned a Chris Redman pass 83 yards for a TD four and one-half minutes later, putting the Eagles up to stay at 34-0; a late score by the Falcons, a 3-yard Redman-to-Roddy White TD pass, closed out the scoring.
McNabb led Philadelphia, going 14-of-25 for 238 yards and a TD while Vick went 2-of-2 for 48 yards and a score while rushing for 17 yards and a TD; meanwhile, Redman went 23-of-44 for 235 yards with a TD and an INT. Weaver led all Eagles rushers with 37 yards on 5 carries while catching 2 passes for 63 yards and a TD; Jason Snelling led the Falcons with 10 carries for 35 yards.
Jeremy Maclin led all Eagles receivers with 4 receptions for 83 yards while Reggie Brown caught 2 for 64 yards. White led all Falcons receivers with 9 receptions for 104 yards and a TD while Tony Gonzalez caught 8 passes for 72 yards. Philadelphia (8-4) plays next Sunday when they travel to New York to take on the Giants while Atlanta (6-6) remains at home to host the undefeated New Orleans Saints – also next Sunday.
