Since the Eagles aren’t playing this weekend, let’s take a look at the teams who ARE playing this weekend.
AFC Championship – Jets at Colts
This looks like a David vs. Goliath matchup and should be very interesting. You have the rookie quarterback vs. the legend. Dominant pass attack vs. dominant rush attack. Team known for their offense vs. team known for their defense. The Colts are the number one seed and rightfully so. They had a run at perfection but held back, having their perfect dreams ruined by the team they face this weekend.
It’s no secret that if the Jets want to win this game they have to get their run game going. Their offense in the second half last week was much better than in the first half, and that is the offense that will need to show up for four quarters on Sunday. Their defense will have their hands full but I think they can hold their own. Last week, they were able to force Philip Rivers into turning the ball over and will need to try to do the same thing to Peyton Manning this week. That will be no easy feat as he’s one of the best there’s ever been.
I think the biggest matchup of the day will be the Colts defense against the Jets run game. Mark Sanchez isn’t going to beat you threw the air, so if the Colts can stop the run it should be game over.
NFC Championship – Vikings at Saints
This should be a very good game. You’ve got a matchup with two very high powered offenses that can put up some serious points. This could be Brett Favre’s final season (God I hope so) so you know he’s going to put it all on the line. Both quarterbacks can throw the ball, so I think the play of the running backs should be something interesting to watch. I saw an interesting argument on ESPN this week about which running back you’d rather have on your team this weekend: Adrian Peterson or Reggie Bush. It seems like a no brainer but Bush has had a pretty good postseason and has the “hot hand.”
I see this game as being more exciting than the first game because I can see their being more flash on the offensive side of the ball. The matchup really seems like it should be a close game and I hope that it is.
