Vick Set to Get Roster Bonus

Michael Vick is set to get a $1.5 million roster bonus this Friday from the Eagles and it is looking more and more like he will get it. March 5th is the official start of free agency, and also the day Brian Westbrook will officially be released from the team. Much like Westbrook, many players will be released and become free agents on Friday. However, it’s not looking like Michael Vick will be one of them.

The Eagles would have loved to get a trade done for Vick before Friday but it’s just not going to happen. Despite that, the Eagles do think they can get a trade done at some point so rather than releasing Vick, they will pay the bonus and hold on to him. Part of the reasoning behind this is that the Eagles think the value they can get in return for Vick is worth taking the $1.5 million hit. The Eagles are ideally looking to get a third round pick in exchange for Vick right now.

There has been all sorts of speculation involving Vick this offseason with reports on teams who say they are interested. He’s definitely got some gas left in the tank and there are plenty of teams out there who could use an experienced quarterback. I fully believe the Eagles will be able to trade Vick this offseason, it’s just a matter of where he’ll go.
