Offseason – Quiet Upgrades?

Before last season, while everyone discussed the Andrews Brothers, Jason Peters trade, & the draft, the biggest addition could have been FB Leonard Weaver. Not only did he provide a veteran leader for the offense, he went on to set career highs in carries, yards, & catches, leading him to his 1st Pro Bowl. This offseason he turned that Pro Bowl season, into a contract extension. So that leads me to this offseason, who will be the underrated addition for the 2010 season?

The Eagles have not been as busy as some of the other teams in the league, but they have made some moves. They traded WR R.Brown to Tampa and DE C. Clemons to Seattle for DE D.Tapp, released were LB W. Witherspoon & RB B. Westbrook, and WR Hank Baskett’s return will be a nice story. They also signed the 1st restricted free agent of the offseason to a offer sheet in RB M.Bell. That’s the one I believe will turn out to be a BIG addition, if the Saints decline to match our offer. We needed a RB to split the carries with the new starter Shady McCoy, after the long time Eagles great B Westbrook was released. We still could draft a RB in the middle rounds for depth, but I think Bell’s skill set will blend well with McCoy’s. Bell’s size {220lbs} and ability to run between the tackles will be a nice change of pace to McCoy’s shifty Westbrook-like style.

I still think the draft could provide another back for depth from the middle rounds, but between Shady, Bell, & “The Dream-Weaver”, the backfield could be as strong as it has been since the Three headed Monster days with Duce, Westbrook, & Buckhalter.
