Five Prospects the Eagles Will Look at Closer

Philly.com is reporting a host of potential prospects that the Eagles are planning on working out prior to the draft. Let’s take a look at some:

1. Charles Scott – RB, LSU
At 5-11 240 pounds, Scott is much like the Mike Bell mold. He’s a power runner who put up big numbers in 2008 but had his season cut short in 2009. In four years at LSU, he averaged close to 5.5 yards per carry and was a challenge to bring to the ground. Scott is someone who could be on the Eagles radar later in the draft as he’s not projected to be drafted super high. If brought in, he would most likely compete with Eldra Buckley and Martell Mallett for the third running back position.

2. Jerry Hughes – DE/OLB, TCU
Hughes is a player that is being talked about a whole lot. At TCU, Hughes recorded 15 sacks in 2008 and 11 sacks in 2009 and is just born to rush the passer. The interesting thing with Hughes is that he is being projected in all different kind of spots. Some projections have him as more of a late second or early third round pick while others have him going much higher. TCU is one of those schools that really got a lot of attention this year because of their season, and Hughes has to be a key contributor to a defense that helped its team go undefeated in the regular season. I think Hughes could possibly be one of those guys that either a team takes a risk on and drafts him high or slowly begins to fall down the board.

3. Mike Iupati – G, Idaho
As far as offensive lineman go, I don’t think I’ve heard more talk about any other prospect that I have about Iupati. He seems to be a guy that has worked extremely hard this offseason and worked his way in to being a first round pick. Standing at 6-5 331 pounds, he’s an absolute monster (especially for a guard). If things keep progressing the way they have been, he may very well be off the board before the 24th pick rolls around for the Eagles. You know Andy loves his lineman so he’ll definitely be taking a look at this kid.

4. Rodger Saffold – OT, Indiana
This is another big boy at 6-4 316 pounds. He spent three years at left tackle for Indiana so he’s definitely got some experience. I can see him going somewhere in the second round, possibly earlier if he has strong workouts and many teams decide to go OT with their first pick (like last year). Safford will work out for the Eagles on March 31st.

5. Chris McCoy – DE/OLB, Middle Tennessee State
McCoy is the kind of guy the Eagles will work out and possibly consider as a later round pick in the draft. At a smaller school, he didn’t have a whole lot of opportunity to shine. Also, he doesn’t have numbers that will throw you off your seat but has scheduled a visit with the team April 8-9.
