The Good, The Bad, The Ugly: Offseason Edition

The Good:
The Eagles have had an aggressive makeover of the defense only 1 year after doing the same to the offensive skill positions. They’ve brought in LBs Ernie Sims & Alex Hall through trades and drafted 2 LBs and maybe a 3rd in DE Ricky Sapp. I would prefer Sapp play a pass rushing role, but it seems the coaching staff is trying to get a look at him at the SAM spot. The Eagles had a strong draft overall, addressing need positions like FS & DE early, as well as good depth with 13 overall draft picks at positions there were no needs, like TE in Clay Harbor & WR Riley Cooper. My sleeper value will be in late round picks RB Charles Scott & S Kurt Coleman. They will have a tough time making the 53 man roster, Scott will be challenged by RB Buckley with his quality special teams play, & Coleman may be battling Q. Demps for the final safety spot, but I have a feeling he may open some eyes in Training Camp.

The Bad:
Trading Sheldon Brown to the Browns over a contract situation that could have been resolved. All the Browns had to do to resolve Brown’s contract dispute was restructure it & gurantee more money. No extenstion, no extra money. I’m sure he would have taking that to remain here, and the Eagles could have used another solid starter in the secondary. He would have been a strong presence in a young locker room. My only draft issue is I might have picked up a corner earlier if I was not going to keep Brown. Nothing against CB Trevard Lindley, but there were some chances to get arguably better prospects earlier. And I know the Eagles were high on Scott, but there were some good options in the 3rd round that would have tempted me.

The Ugly:
The change from Mcnabb to Kolb could have been handled a little smoother. Even though some fans blamed everything on Mcnabb, there were more that loved the last 11 years and truly were sad to see him go. Nothing hit like Dawkins leaving for Denver, but an era has ended & until Kolb shows otherwise maybe this whole run has too. The dust up between Desean Jackson & Mcnabb was also not as big as it was made to be, but a black eye neither one needed. Desean has taken some heat for running his mouth, and rightfully so, but when you are a team 1st guy, that includes your former teammates who helped you excel and make your name in this league. Mcnabb has ANOTHER WR on record as “taking shots” at him. For a man that has drawn so much controversy in his career, he does not need anymore drama.
