With Flight Night officially in the books, the Eagles have exactly one week until they will return to Lincoln Financial Field. This time around they will get the chance to see some new faces.
The preseason officially kicks off next Friday when the Jacksonville Jaguars come to town. Both teams really have to be looking forward to this. Although a lot of players don’t like the preseason, this is going to be an opportunity for the players to hit someone other than their own teammates.
This will also be the rookies first opportunity to show what they’re made of against an opposing NFL team.
I’m not a huge fan of the long preseason period, but I the first preseason game is my favorite. It’s just another sign that the season is really getting close. Of course, my second favorite preseason game is the last one because at that point you’re ready for it to be over and for real games to start.
One match-up I’ll be particularly interested in next Friday is the Eagles run defense against Maurice Jones-Drew. In the final two games with the Cowboys last year, the Eagles run defense went MIA. Jones-Drew is one of the best backs in the league so it will be a nice test for them early in the preseason.
On our side, I’ll just be looking to see how the rookies can translate everything they’ve learned into a real game situation. There have been a lot of rookies showing talent in Training Camp so far, but that doesn’t mean anything if you can’t show it in a game.
