In a Disappointing Loss, Eagles Must Learn from their Mistakes

There’s no denying that the Eagles completely blew the game yesterday against the Titans. They had a nice lead that they gradually gave away and then got left in the dust. A loss like that hurts; however, the Eagles need to learn from the mistakes they made and move forward.

This was far from being a perfect game. The Eagles may have had the lead early, but that wasn’t because they were playing outstanding football. They were playing well enough to win.

The biggest play that needs to be looked at was the goal line fumble. Although the fumble came on the exchange between Kevin Kolb and LeSean McCoy, it’s hard to blame either of them for the play. The offensive line blew an assignment, allowing a Titans lineman to be on top of Kolb before he could even fully reach McCoy to hand the ball off. The Eagles turned the ball, and it was all down hill from there.

Another huge issue that lead to the Titans comeback was in coverage. Ellis Hobbs and Nate Allen let Kenny Britt do as he pleased as he tallied seven receptions for 225 yards and three touchdowns. A lot of Britt’s success came by splitting the two defenders and was also fueled by some poor tackling. I think it’s safe to say that the Titans game was Allen’s worst game thus far as an Eagle. He’s a rookie so we knew he was bound to make mistakes. The good news is that the Eagles have a bye this week so he’ll have plenty of time to look at the film and learn from his mistakes.

Kevin Kolb’s performance was definitely a downgrade from his last outing. Andy Reid has announced that Michael Vick will be the starter against the Colts after the bye, so it doesn’t look like Kolb will see much live action to try and improve in the areas he made mistakes.

The only good thing about the loss is the fact that the Eagles have the bye week. Everyone on the team will be able to get a good luck at what they did wrong on Sunday and have plenty of time to work on their flaws.
