Final Thoughts and Observations on Eagles Win Over Giants

Offense
Michael Vick – Statistically, he didn’t have the type of game we saw him have against the Redskins. I can live with that. We probably won’t see another performance out of him like that again this season. That was just absolutely magical. However, he’s continuing to put the team in a position to win football games. He made some key throws towards the end of the game and got some nice support from his supporting cast.

LeSean McCoy – Wow. What a performance late in the game. He took the fourth and one pitch 50 yards to the house and also had a bunch of key runs in the Eagles final offensive possession. McCoy is having a monster year for the Eagles and continues to make big plays. I think he’s a bit too shifty at times, but he has big play potential every time he touches the ball.

Jeremy Maclin – Huge game for Maclin. This is something we’ll need to continually see out of him as teams will look to shut down DeSean Jackson. Maclin had nine catches for 120 yards on the night and I hope to see him keep his production up down the stretch.

Jason Avant – I still can’t believe he dropped that ball in the end zone. First of all, how do you get that wide open? Second, how do you not catch the football when you’re that wide open. He had a nice grab towards the end of the game to make up for it a little bit, but it still baffles me that he couldn’t bring that in.

Offensive Line – Despite some bonehead penalties, I’m pretty happy with the way the line has been playing as of late. They’ve been giving Vick time to throw the football, and we also saw some key blocks on McCoy’s touchdown run.

Defense
Run Defense – What a tremendous job. The Giants brought in a very talented running back tandem and the Eagles completely shut them down. The Giants typically try to set up their passing attack by establishing a run game. The Eagles didn’t let that happen.

Asante Samuel – Take away that fumble on the interception return, and Samuel just about did it all on Sunday. He recorded two interceptions, recovered a fumble, and even tackled. We saw him absolutely pop a receiver and also have a solo tackle on a tight end in the open field.

Stewart Bradley – Pretty good game for Bradley. He helped in shutting down the running attack and also had an interception to seal the game. I’m still not thrilled with how he has been in coverage, but I think that’s something he’ll spend a lot of time working on.

Antonio Dixon – Not a huge game statistically, but this guy continues to play at a very high level and definitely makes his presence felt.

Dimitri Patterson – Continues to play at a high level since filling in for Ellis Hobbs.

Special Teams
David Akers – Take away the blocked field goal just before halftime and Akers was perfect on the day. He had a couple kicks that hugged the upright, but I’ll take it.

Ellis Hobbs – You have to feel sorry for the guy. He just makes it back into the line-up and then suffers an injury like that. Tough break.
