Giants accuse Eagles of playing dirty

The Eagles-Giants clash is done and over with. Philadelphia appears poised to capture the NFC East division title, while New York is left with an uphill battle after dropping to 9-5 with two games left. But the losing side from Sunday’s amazing showdown isn’t finished coming up with excuses to downplay the Eagles’ miraculous comeback. For the second time this year, the Giants are accusing the Eagles of playing dirty.

After the Eagles beat the G-Men in November, Todd Herremans was called out by some Giants players for his illegal chop blocks, and evidently the Giants aren’t done criticizing. “It’s just that team, they like to play dirty. Same [stuff] they did in the first game and the refs don’t do (anything) about it,” defensive tackle Rocky Bernard said in an interview with Mike Garafolo of The Star-Ledger. “Just taking cheap shots, after the whistle, tackling, holding, whatever. It’s ridiculous.”

As Sheil Kapadia points out at Philly.com, the Eagles were called for five penalties vs. the Giants on Sunday, but there were no personal fouls. Even so, Bernard and the Giants feel cheated. “I’m usually a pretty cool guy, but when they start doing stuff like that, taking cheap shots, that’s when I have a problem with it. You try to complain about it to the ref, and they don’t call it.”
