The Eagles are hosting the Packers in the Wildcard round of the playoffs, as both teams entered the game with high powered and high scoring offenses, it was expected to be a shoot-out. The score is surprisingly low, sitting at a 14-3 game in the Packers favor. There have been some big plays and some big mistakes so far in the game, and of far the Packers have had the upper hand on both offense and defense.
Here are some quick thoughts for both teams:
Can the Eagles offense get moving and start scoring touchdowns? -It is still early in the game, and there is a strong chance that Vick will start finding holes in the Packers defense. Once the Eagles offense hits their stride then some points will start scoring touchdowns.
Where is the Eagles defense? -This was a problem heading into the game and the Eagles need to turn it around and quick, especially when a QB like Arron Rodgers is on the other team. The Packers offense is too good to let them take a lead. The Eagles defense is better than what they have been playing in the opening of this game. Playmakers like Asante Samuel and Trent Cole need to start making plays or it could lead into a blowout.
Why can’t the Eagles stop James Starks? -The Eagles rushing defense has been excellent this season, and it is surprising to see that they are struggling against a poor rushing attack that is coming from the Packers. There have been a few runs where a huge run was based mainly around missed tackles from the Eagles defense. This should change in the second half and that will force the Packers to go back to the passing game.
Can the Packers defense hold Michael Vick? -There is really no way to contain Vick for the entire game. They might be able to slow him down, but there is no way that Vick will be shut down for another two quarters. It should be interesting to see what the Matthews/Woodson combo does in the second half.
Can the Packers keep scoring? -If Rodgers and the rest of this Packers offense keeps playing the way they have, I don’t know how they wouldn’t. This is one of the best offenses in the NFL and they have the potential to score on every single play. It is a strong possibility that the Packers offense will keep racking up the points.
When will Woodson/Matthews make a play? -It will be amazing to see the ClayMaker and Woodson go an entire game without a least one turnover or one drive changing play. They are just such a good combination that it is almost guaranteed once a game. I expect one of these two guys to come up big for the Packers at some point in the second half.
