The Eagles are clearly exploring all of their options for the upcoming draft, as they have now worked out Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor. This can be taken in several different lights, and it is most likely to see Taylor’s potential before the draft. There have been comparisons made from Taylor playing a similar style to Michael Vick, but with much less athleticism when running the ball down field.
Vick, along with Taylor, are both alumni of Virginia Tech and there could be a common bond between the two players. It would make sense for most that do online betting for the Eagles to draft a quarterback that has a similar background to Vick, so that Taylor can learn from a similar style. Taylor has had countless scheduled workouts with various NFL teams, but he is not slated to be a high draft pick. This means that the Eagles could potentially pickup a viable replacement to Vick without having to burn a high pick.
Taylor had a successful career at Virginia Tech, but there have been questions regarding his accuracy and his ability to make the right read when under pressure. With all run-first quarterbacks, there is no promise that they will succeed in the NFL, and Vick is a rare situation. Although there is no debate about his arm strength, as Taylor can easily throw the ball to speed receivers deep over the top.
Most of the Eagles quarterback draft rumors are being fueled as the Kevin Kolb talks heat up, and this workout could just end up being a workout. Taylor is not an NFL ready quarterback, and it would take him a few seasons to develop into a player that can be relied on. As a long-term option, Taylor does not seem like he would fit the Eagles pass-first scheme, but in the short-term he could be a great choice.
