Philadelphia Eagles 2011 Schedule Breakdown

The NFL has announced every team’s regular season schedule, and the Philadelphia Eagles don’t have an easy one. Everything from opening on the road for two straight games, to ending the season with two straight division games. The Eagles are slated to host the Chicago Bears in their only Monday Night Football game, and have an abundance of Sunday Night Games. In arguably Philadelphia’s most heated game, the Eagles will be playing the New England Patriots at home in week 12.

Here’s the breakdown:

Week 1, September 11: at St. Louis, 1 ET:

This will be a tough win no matter who the Eagles get in the draft. The St. Louis Rams are an up and coming team, and there is little that can slow down the young gunslinger in Sam Bradford. To compound things, it’s never easy to open the season on the road. The Eagles defense will be key to winning this game, and the offense should score with relative ease.

Week 2, September 18: at Atlanta (Sunday Night):

What a game this will be. The Falcons are one of the best teams in the NFC, and it makes it even more exciting that this is in the Dome in Atlanta. This should bring back huge nostalgia for Michael Vick, and he will be playing out of his mind. As long as the Eagles defense keeps Matt Ryan and Michael Turner in check, the game should come down to the wire.

Week 3, September 25: NEW YORK GIANTS, 1 ET:

The Giants will be playing out of revenge after the Eagles knocked them out of the playoffs last season and had a monster comeback when in New York. Depending on how the Eagles respond on their first two road games, there home opener could go a few different ways. Like usual, the Eagles offense is going to have to come up strong to down the G-Men, even though it will be in Philadelphia this is going to be a tough win.

Week 4, October 2: SAN FRANCISCO, 1 ET:

This is a rematch of last season and the Eagles narrowly escaped with a win in San Francisco in their last matchup. I can’t see the 49ers making big enough changes to make an impact on the road, let alone in Philadelphia. As long as the defense plays like they should and Vick is in the starting lineup, this should be a win. Then again, Andy Reid has blown easy games like this in the past, (Vikings last season).

Week 5, October 9: at Buffalo, 1 ET:

I have a lot of respect for Buffalo. I have even more respect for their true fans. There isn’t much chance of the Eagles losing this game, and even though it’s on the road, the Bills don’t have much of a chance in the big picture.

Week 6, October 16: at Washington, 1

I’m actually hoping Donovan McNabb is no longer in Washington for this matchup. The Redskins are a few years off from actual contention and the Eagles should have little trouble with this game, as Vick destroyed Washington on the road last season.

Week 7: BYE

Week 8, October 30: DALLAS (Sunday Night)

I know that Dallas had  a bad season. There is no reason to think that it will happen again, and the Eagles need to watch out. Whether it’s Tony Romo or someone else in Dallas, this team is really good.

Week 9, November 7: CHICAGO (Monday Night)

Now on the other end of this Monday Night game, I think this will be an easy win. The Eagles have played really well against the Bears over the past few seasons, and I just don’t think the Bears are that good of a team. Plus- The game’s in Philadelphia. Vick loves Monday Night, so get ready Chicago.

Week 10, November 13: ARIZONA, 1 ET:

I love Larry Fitzgerald, but the Cardinals are a long way out of winning any substantial amount of games. The Eagles should have this game locked down at home.

Week 11, November 20: at New York Giants (Sunday Night):

Every time the Giants come up in the middle of the season, it’s never a good combo. They’re totally unpredictable, and they are generally very good at home. Philadelphia has to get a lead and then maintain it for the entire game, or they will drop this one.

Week 12, November 27: NEW ENGLAND, 3:15:

Why hello there, Mr. Brady. We meet again. This time in Philadelphia. The Eagles know how important this game is. I can’t see any chance of them losing it. Unless Brady pull’s a Brady, and he goes berserk on the Eagles D, this is a win.

Week 13, December 1: at Seattle (Thursday Night)

This is definitely one of the toughest games on the schedule. Any time a game is played in Seattle, it’s tough. It’s not called the sixth man for nothing. Philadelphia may have more talent as a team, but the crowd is going to play a huge factor in the team’s success.

Week 14, December 11: at Miami, 1:

Miami, Miami. The Dolphins are not the Heat, and they are going to be struggling late in the season. The Eagles should be able to go to South Beach and put on a show for LeBron James and all his buddies.

Week 15, December 18: NEW YORK JETS, 3:15:

The Eagles get to play Sexy Rexy. This should be an awesome showdown, and it will come down to the very end. Both teams have the talent and all the means to compete with one another. This may be my favorite game of the season.

Week 16, December 24: at Dallas, 3:15 (Saturday)

I swear Rodger Goodell loves Jerry Jones. Any time the Eagles play Dallas late in the season, it’s always close. Now that the Cowboys are back on track, this game will be a tough one and could have serious playoff implications.

Week 17, January 1: WASHINGTON, 1:

This should be an easy close for Philadelphia. Washington once again is outmanned and outgunned. This will be like a victory lap for Philadelphia at home before the playoffs.

My Projected Record: (11-5)
