Eagles re-sign DT Landri

It’s clearly evident the run defense has to get better – and get better fast.

With that said, the Eagles took a small step towards improving the run defense, as they have re-signed veteran defensive tackle Derek Landri, Adam Caplan of The Sideline View reports.

A 2007 fifth-round pick out of Notre Dame by the Jaguars, Landri has 82 tackles and six quarterback sacks in 51 NFL contests , including a career-best 43 stops and three sacks as a 16-game starter for the Panthers.

Landri signed a one-year, $735,000 contract with the Birds in August, but did not make the team’s 53-man roster coming out of training camp. Since his release, Landri has worked out for the Atlanta Falcons (9/14) and Cincinnati Bengals (9/20), but was not offered a contract.

Landri will replace Antonio Dixon, who suffered a triceps injury during Sunday’s 24-23 loss to the 49ers.

After watching a gimpy Frank Gore shred its run defense to pieces, the Eagles’ front office knew they needed to make a move – no matter what the capacity.
