Andy Reid Gives Donovan McNabb a Helping Hand in the Free Agent Market

Andy Still Has D-Mac's Back!

There really is no gray-area when it comes to Donovan McNabb and Andy Reid’s relationship — pure admiration. Perhaps more than admiration, as the two had the perfect marriage for a decade, and the two came ever so close to winning that elusive Super Bowl. Sending D-Mac to the Washington Redskins was an obvious dagger to the heart of Reid, and could be penciled into the dictionary under the term ‘front office move.’

And even after McNabb’s two rough seasons outside of Philadelphia, Reid still has his back. During an interview with NFL Network, Big Red was essentially asked if McNabb could still be productive in the NFL if another team signed him — and no surprise — he gave him a glowing recommendation. Here’s what he said:

I still think he can play. I think the world of him, and we had some great years together here. I’m always wishing him the best and a fan of his. I got a chance to see him at Brian Dawkins’ retirement, he looks good. He looks physically good. He looks like he could go out and play tomorrow. I would highly recommend it.

No surprises here, not only does Reid still love McNabb, but he also is sticking by his mantra of having his player’s backs (former or current) no matter what. His comments about McNabb may be slightly embellished, but it is true that D-Mac has been working like crazy to get signed by another team. He may not be as physically fit or as athletic as he was before, but he wants to prove that he can get back in the game and win.

At this point, I’d be shocked if a team signed McNabb. But as an Eagles fan, I’d still love to see him back in the game.
