Eagles’ QB Coach Wants Michael Vick to Cut Down on Tipped Passes

Does Mike Vick have a tipped-pass problem?

According to Doug Peterson, the Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback coach, Michael Vick has a major issue with passess being tipped at the line.

During OTAs, Peterson told reporters that Vick was aiming to cut his number of tipped passes at the line in half  during the upcoming season. In the 2011 season, Vick had a total of 19 passes tipped at the line, or according to NFL.com, one pass tipped every 22.3 attempts.

Philly.com threw out an interesting number that supports Peterson’s push for improvement from Vick — Drew Brees, who is about the same height, had only half the amount of tipped passes that Vick did last season. It’s obvious that the skill level of Brees is much higher than that of our #7, but the number still proves that it’s not only height that plays a factor in passes tipped at the line.

As a whole, Vick is going to have to have a rebound season from 2011, given that the Eagles expected much more of out their $100 million man — and passes tipped at the line would be a good first step to improvement. There’s little question that if Philadelphia’s offense tanks, and the team fails to make a deep playoff run — both Vick and Andy Reid will both be shown the door.

Given the amount of progress Vick made from when he was released from jail, it’s certainly plausible to assume that he can fix his issues with passes being batted at the line. Evidently, Peterson is also optimistic that Mike change his old ways on the field, “The old adage, can you teach an old dog new tricks? I think you can. Mike’s a sponge, he really soaks up everything you’re teaching him. He wants to learn, wants to get better.”

Well, Doug, I hope he does too.
