It’s been a rough week at Lehigh for the Philadelphia Eagles and Andy Reid. What happened to Garrett Reid is not only a tragedy, but something that I personally felt something a blogger such as myself couldn’t cover in an adequate manner. There’s really nothing to say that hasn’t already been repeated by Reid, his players or front office personnel.
The team has responded to the best of their ability — by continuing to grind and work harder than ever in memory of Garrett. That’s really the only option the team has.
Reid has taken some time off, and will likely be back soon, working harder than the ever. He seems to take football as a release, and it will be his personal best way to deal with the loss.
The fact that a father has lost his son should not be overshadowed in this. I am not making excuses for Reid, to any extent. I still passionately feel that if Philadelphia doesn’t make a deep playoff run this year, Reid’s tenure with the Eagles is over. However, he did just lose his son. That’s something that few of can imagine, and hopefully none of us will ever have to experience.
That being said, I hope that the team, Reid and everyone else takes this as a sobering reminder that being involved or affiliated with the NFL does not make people invincible. The reality of what happened is a wake-up call to the entire team, and hopefully the entire NFL. In honor of Garrett the best thing that can be done is to learn from him. Understand what can happen. Realize that nothing is perfect. And everything can be taken away in the blink of an eye.
