According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, the Eagles made an offer to retain reserve inside linebacker Akeem Jordan. Jordan is reportedly visiting with the Bengals and has drawn interest from “multiple teams.”
I would love Jordan back, as he is one of the Eagles’ most consistent core special teams players and has held his own in spot starting duty over the last few seasons. He’s an experienced veteran, but also has youth on his side (turns 27 in August).
Chip Kelly has gone on record several times trumpeting the importance of special teams, and believes that one advantage of running a 3-4 defense is that these fronts keep more linebackers on the roster, as linebackers generally have more impact on special teams than defensive linemen. As such, I would hope that the Eagles bring Jordan back. If he returns, he would compete with Jamar Chaney and Casey Matthews for a backup inside linebacker job.
