Mathis Undergoes Minor Ankle Surgery

Starting offensive guard Evan Mathis will miss some OTAs (organized team activities) and minicamps after undergoing a minor ankle surgery. He should be at full strength “well before the start of training camp.” In his absence, Danny Watkins will likely get the reps at guard with the first-team offense. As long as Mathis’ recovery goes smoothly, the Eagles have nothing to worry about it. Mathis is one of the most underrated players on the team and will help establish an improved running game under Chip Kelly. The lone starting offensive lineman who successfully avoided the injury bug in 2012, the Eagles cannot afford to lose Mathis’ nastiness in the run game going forward.
