DeSean Jackson Picks New Agent

WR DeSean Jackson fired mega-agent Drew Rosenhaus in early June, just before Rosenhaus filed a grievance against the speedster for failing to pay back $400,000 in loans. Given Jackson’s flashy nature and interest in the hip hop industry, rumors tied him to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports. However, after going a month and a half without representation, Jackson elected to hire Joel Segal, another high-profile name. Segal has represented 24 first round picks since 2001, including Michael Vick. Segal may have to negotiate a new contract for his client before long, as the Eagles are likely to rip up the 5 year, $47 million pact Jackson signed at some point. The Eagles owe Jackson $44 million over the next four years, a princely sum for a receiver who has never caught more than 63 balls in a season. Ultimately, Jackson’s agent choice is unlikely to have any effect on the his performance in 2013, but his decision to go with an established negotiator over the up-and-coming rap star could indicate that he is feeling somewhat insecure about his contract situation. His long-term future in Philadelphia will hinge on this season and his relationship with Chip Kelly.
