The Philadelphia Eagles are trying to figure out their future and that begins with figuring out if quarterback Jalen Hurts is their long-term option. As of this writing, Jalen Hurts has a 48 QBR and is completing 60.1 percent of his throws for 2,435 yards with 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also is a threat running the ball as he is running the ball 122 times for 695 yards (5.7 yards per carry) with eight rushing touchdowns this season. Is Hurts a winning quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles for the next decade-plus? The answer is a remarkable yes.
If you want to jump on some NFL lines for the Eagles with the success from Jalen Hurts as of late, make sure to be looking. They are currently listed as a seven-point favorite on the road against the New York Jets in this game.
Being able to avoid major hits and negative plays is going to continue putting the Philadelphia Eagles in a winning position. Despite having an average offensive line this season if we are being nice and traded away veteran tight end Zach Ertz to provide solid blocking, Hurts has not been sacked more than three times in a single game. That’s going up against solid pass-rushing defenses like Tampa Bay, Carolina, San Francisco, and Denver. Being able to keep defenses on their toes and exhaust big defensive linemen with his ability to scramble is going to continue to benefit him as Hurts is avoiding hits and preserving his body.
He Has A Weapon
In order for a quarterback to play well, he needs at least one offensive weapon to help him out that can make a solid play. Enter stage left DeVonta Smith. Smith has emerged during his rookie season as he is currently 35th in receptions (48), 25th in receiving yards (686), and 25th in yards per reception (14.3). Having a solid pass-catcher that can separate from a defensive back and has at least another two seasons of chemistry to gain together, it will really help Jalen Hurts take that next step as a passer.
Making Plays With His Legs
There is more to Jalen Hurts’ game than just throwing the football as he is one of the best runners with the football regardless of position. Jalen Hurts is 10th in the National Football League in rushing yards this season and that forces opposing defenses to put a quarterback spy on him or completely change their game plan in the coverage and/or pressuring him. Remember that this is only Hurts’ second season in the league and the first that he is actually starting for so that means he is going to continue to improve with more games under his belt.
The career of Jalen Hurts can be successful as he is willing to get those free yards that are there on the football field. He seems to be the second-best quarterback in the NFC East behind Dak Prescott right now and should be able to continue to improve. The Eagles have a couple of high picks due to their record and their trading prowess and have some holes to fill but not at the quarterback position. They need to make sure to continue building their offensive line and getting weapons to help him out and take a load off of his shoulders. Hurts can be the best quarterback in the history of the franchise if he continues to progress throughout his NFL career. Be prepared for a decade of Jalen Hurts being the real deal for Philly and finding DeVonta Smith in the end zone.
