The move has to be a shock to Pederson himself, who back on December 28th seemed confident that he would be back in 2021 as coach.
“I feel fully confident to be the head coach of the Eagles in 2021,” Pederson said on 94.1 WIP December 28th.
“The thing I’m most proud of, this football team, we have been in the postseason three of the last five years since I’ve been here, and that’s pretty good.
“We have won a championship here. We have gone through a season where a lot of our veteran guys are not playing due to injury. We are playing with a lot of young players.”
Pederson lost the locker room after pulling rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts during the Eagles final game of the season in the second half for little played quarterback Nate Sudfeld.
The move not only was debated in many NFL circles as the Eagles “tanking” the game, which allowed Washington to win and win the NFC East, but it also was a hot debate among players on the team.
It will be interesting to see what direction the Eagles go in for the next coach of the franchise.
